A palette with a character of its own

A natural perfume is a composition. A familiar botanical material can become difficult to name once it is placed beside others. An herbal heart may acquire softness; a wood may feel brighter or more rounded. The interest lies in the relationships the perfumer creates.

Natural perfumery commonly draws on essential oils, absolutes and other aromatic extracts. There is an established vocabulary for these materials: ISO 9235 addresses terms and definitions for aromatic natural raw materials. The Natural Perfumers Guild's position paper gives a practitioner perspective on the scope of natural perfume.

Natural, botanical and organic

These words answer different questions. Natural describes an origin and, depending on the definition being used, how a material is obtained. Botanical points specifically toward plants. Organic concerns a separate production or certification claim. One word does not establish the others.

For Oilboros, the claim is precise: all aromatic materials are natural. That describes the fragrance palette. It does not turn a scent description into a full ingredient list, or imply an organic or vegan certification.

Our guide to natural and synthetic perfume explains the distinctions when you are comparing bottles.

A scent note is a way of describing an experience

When a perfume is described as green, powdery, gourmand or earthy, those words help you imagine its character. They do not necessarily name a separate ingredient. A composition can suggest a flower or an edible richness through the relationship between its aromatic materials.

Read the note list as an invitation to smell. Read the ingredient information for formulation details. Keeping the two separate makes a description more useful and avoids turning an evocative phrase into a promise about the formula.

The Oilboros approach

Oilboros is an artisanal natural perfume house. Our perfumes are made by hand in small, limited batches. Limited supply is part of the character of the house. It gives the collection a scale that suits the work, without requiring every perfume to be available at every moment.

The story of Oilboros is about nature's character and the art of bringing different strengths into relationship. In the collection, Dill explores a fresh green heart with citrus and earth. Oilboros No. 18 centers palo santo with gourmand, powder and citrus facets.

Begin with a small encounter

A note list can suggest a direction, but wearing a perfume gives you a fuller basis for choosing. Our 1 ml samples are $7 each. The 10 ml spray is $50 and the 30 ml large size is $130. All three sizes are eau de parfum.
